The new collection of tees from Amplified has turned all art-deco, hooking up with graphic design legend Bob Masse, releasing a range of t-shirts featuring some of his original art work. His hippy chic graphics are sensual, erotic, and dreamy, the kind of girls who were knocking back the Absinthe on a Friday nights hanging at the Moulin Rouge.
P.S. is gearing up for tomorrows Doctor Martins party, before you ask nothing to do with the crap TV show with Martin Clunes, but rather the iconic shoe brand! The party is at the Neal Street store, promising to be rock'n'roll with Vinny Vinny playing a live set. The brand has had an overhaul of late associated with Grunge and the 90s, they have recently collaborated with Yohji Yamamoto. Images from the party to follow tomorrow!
This Sunday sees the return of iSSUE, Young Gifted and Half Black this fortnights flyer is a pastiche of an of Dazed and Confused from last year. The new 'iSSUE' has Granny Pearson on hand as in-house councillor, speech from Mr king and Co. The chance to utilize the clubs photographer, props to create your own shoot.
Another junkie turned campaign model, as Amy Winehouse follows in the footsteps of Pete Doherty (except shes talented) is rumoured to heading the latest campaign for Robert Cavalli. According to the weekend tabloids he has offerred her a contract wherby she would get free clothes in return for wearing them at high profile events. Cavalli has said "She has a real sense of style that I love. She is a fashion icon because she is unique." Trading in the completely talentless/pointless Victoria Beckham for Winehouse seems a great idea to P.S.
Sex-god Daniel Craig has topped GQ's Best Dressed Man list for the second year running. Craig who has a famous love for bespoke Tom Ford suits, won the honour after impressing the panel, who included Naomi Campbell and Giorgio Armani. The full list is in this months GQ which hits the newsstands on this Thursday.
David Saunders the man behind the cult label DavidDavid has gone back to his fine art roots, following in the footsteps of designers Philip Normal and Bella Freud to show his A/W 08/09 collection on film. Models Ben Grimes and Jo Walsh wear David David signature prints in Chalice/Blade, produced by Kathryn Ferguson and Andersen M Studio. The film recently premiered at the ICA as part of the Bird's Eye View film festival.
5 Pre View is an Italian label producing very cool t-shirts, complete with bold anarchic statements. they have just produced the tour tees for Richard Fearless'(Death in Vegas) new act Black Acid, who are on tour with The Kills and The Raveonettes. Limited to batches of 50 per print the tees are made to order and retail for 50 euros, and available on the website.
Continuing the trend for partying like its 1987, flat-top styles are returning for men as reported by the fabulous Charlie Porter for GQ Style. The revival has been started on the catwalk during Calvin Klein's S/S 08 show, part of the trend away from size-zero male metrosexuals, and the renewed interest in musclebound 80s Americana styling. Porter article also offers insight into the best techniques to sculpt the hair into the flat-top style.
Beards and sunglasses, modelled by the Archie Bronson Outfit
Sick of metrosexual men, P.S. is for one, and is glad to see the return of the beard, the new accessory for men this season according GQ Style. Just make sure you wash it and for god's sake don't get any bloody food stuck it in, thats just sick!
Last night saw a choatic run by P.S. around various venues in the East End, from the Old Blue Last, to Foriegn @ Bar Music Hall ....
Nuke Factory Flyer
Before ending up at secret rave (which even our taxi driver couldn't find!) a stones throw from Canary Wharf. The atmosphere was great, a polysexual mash up, great tunes and fashions AND the ablity to smoke indoors for once! The only strange sight was a woman who had brought her teenage daughter with her! I mean who takes there to an illegal rave? - well thats modern parenting methods I guess! P.S. would like to give a special thanks to Miss Watson for doing a great job on the door.
Jack E and Emma, Nuke Factory, Limehouse.
Being so far out east had a plus side in the morning when P.S. was able to stop off at Dalston's Mr Beigal for a batch of soft doughy goodness!
It definetly sounds like a solicitors firm, but hip new 'Couverture & The Garbstore' lifestyle store is set to open in London's Kensington Park Road in April. Stocking a mixture of mens, childrens, womens, and homewares. The store, which spans a whopping three floors, was established by Emily Dyson, daughter of the one man vaccum brand James.
If that wasn'r enough P.S. is salivating over the announcement that Miu Miu plans to open a London flagship store in 2010. Located at 150 New Bond Street, on the corner of Bruton Street, the 3,800 sq ft store previously housed Emanuel Ungaro.
Well it seems that George Clooney isn't going to be in the list of famous designers called George, well erm George of Asda, thats it actually. P.S. is rather amused to hear that rocker Rod Stewart has launched a range of merchandise and apparel on his website. Mainly selling t-shirts the site also boasts a lovely pair of lovely undies for the bargain price of £2.50 ...
Agyness Deyn is of course the feet/face of Reebok Freestyle, the iconic 80s aerobic trainer. Part of the The Freestyle World Tour for the trainer, after Tokyo, Paris was the next stop, before heading to Delhi, London, Madrid and New York at various points throughout this years calander, with customised pairs of each city.
Paris Freestyle
P.S. desperatly wants every pair of the new limited trainers - I already have some bright paitent yellow ones and a pair in bright sky blue, a bit Neu-Rave but can't bear to throw them out! Ita also always advisable to get a bigger size than usual, as they are very narrow.
With Summer on the horizon, no it is honestly! P.S. is loving the latest Celia Birtwell creation a fab 50s style swimsuit. Birtwell has designed a swimsuit for Swimathon 2008, which raises money for Marie Curie. With only 30 in existance, and an added element - you can only win one from www.swimathon.org
Left to right: Glenn Close Fatal Atrraction, Deidre Barlow Coronation Street, Alison Goldfrapp, Portobello Spy
Throw out your GHD straightners, the perm is set for a comeback, shunned for the best part of fifteen years the hairstyle is set to be de riguer. Portobello Spy has given into temptation and yesterday had a professional perm which took four hours, blimey - and the finished result more Alison Goldfrapp than Brian May thank goodness! I bumped into Disorder Magazine's Editor, Taylor Glasby who commented "God, you look like a lion."
Perm articles have been cropping up everywhere from Glamour to The Times and even Madonna has gone back to her 80s roots sporting a perm on her latest cut.
P.S. loves a bit of contemporary art, whether its Tate Modern, or Saatchi Gallery, and will be booking a visit to Milan in the future; due to Queen of Techno Fabric Miuicca Prada and her Prada Foundation, who are set to open a museum just south of Milan, housing art contemporary art exhibitions, with Prada store architect Koolhaas designing the internal space.
Prada graces the cover of The New York Times Magazine for a special feature on women who are redrawing the art world. The space is said to be more than 162,000 square feet, estimated to be complete in four years time. Prada commented "It was a little ridiculous how I wanted to keep entirely separate the art and fashion."
Prada Foundation have showcased the work of Brit-artists Sam Taylor-Wood, Steve McQueen, and Anish Kapoor.
Another day, another blog about Kate Moss and Jamie Hince. Hince is presumably reading up in 'the knowledge' as he plays Parker to Moss's Lady Penelope, since she acquired a black cab costing a rumoured £40,000 from friends Sadie Frost and Fran Cutler. As reported on Elle online Hince is getting the new motor kitted out with an iPod and speakers, and personalised steering wheel. P.S. can't help but wonder if this will spark a fashion trend for kitsch beaded seat covers and furry dice.
Fenchurch's spring/summer collection is now available to buy, much to the delight of P.S. who has been coveting it since the press launch in October. the collection is comprised of the standard basics and key pieces of on trend plaid shirts, parkas, graphic tees, and 80s inspired sportswear.
The ad campaign was also shot in none other then Portobello, taking in the infamous pastel shaded town houses of Notting Hill, echoing the collections colour palette.
After a career railing against the system, P.S. was not at all surprised to hear that Vivienne Westwood was out campaigning for nuclear disarmament yesterday, marking the 50th anniversary of the UK's first hydrogen bomb tests. The CND held the biggest rally for ten years at the Atomic Weapons Establishment Aldermaston in Berkshire. Vogue online reported she took to the stage to galvanise fellow protesters into action, stating "Scientists have warned we are already over the breaking point and in 100 years there will be just one fifth of the world's population remaining."
P.S. got an exclusive sneaky peek at Belle Sauvage's Autumn/Winter collection, featuring trademark rock star inspired prints and angular silhouettes, in bold primary colours; think leggings, over sized tees and hooded jackets with shoulder pads fit for the NFL.
The Spring/Summer collection from Belle Sauvage is now available to buy on their website.
Gracing the front cover of yesterdays Sunday Times Style supplement was Kelly Osbourne. Billed as the "Former Celeb Brat" - hang on she still is one! - dressed as a fat geisha, with ghastly make up making her look like a cut-price version of performance artist Theo Adams, the pictures were shot by Karl Lagerfeld, note to Karl please stick to design.
Now part of a cynical marketing ploy headed up by PR Guru Gary Farrow to make her the voice of the nations youth, come on teens these days are far too cynical to fall for that and she's getting on a bit to fill that role at 23.
Just a quick update to tell you that Henry Holland's new club night launches on Wednesday, named 'Fash Bash' (I bet they were thinking that one up all day!) at up-market dive in disguise Movida.
You may ask why P.S. has issues with the place, well the last time P.S. and entourage were there it was full of horrible middle-aged businessmen with WAG wanabees gyrating in these guys faces - ugh!
Anyway Holland's night promises to take a slice of East End nightlife up West, hopefully a large slice of inbred home counties toffs, who's Daddy got them a job in P.R., to leave the area and go back to Mayfair where they belong, if only for one night.
This months i-D magazine saw the wonderful Hanna Hanra interviewing hot new London scenesters S.C.U.M., named after the Valarie Solanis manifesto 'Society For Cutting up Men.' Despite being teenagers born in the early 1990s they have adopted a very New Romantic style of dressing, bedecked in swathes of velvet and vintage Vivienne Westwood. P.S. for one is very excited at the prospect of a revival, which is long due, and the antidote to the post Neu-Rave/Neu Grave nonsense! Also its not just an style thing the band a re great a mixture of John Foxx era 'Ultravox!' and 'Cabaret Voltaire'.
Another day, another post about the wonderful 'Ashes to Ashes', P.S.'s current TV obsession; P.S. has tracked down the makers of Alex Drakes white leather jacket bespoke made and available for £125. A bloody great buy, because frankly its impossible to find a non-dirty/discoloured retro jacket from the 80s.
Another day, another Neu Rave icon becomes the face of an advertising campaign. Today it is Lovefoxxx from Brazilian band CSS, who is the face of Luella for O'Neill's Spring/Summer collection. P.S. loves er, Lovefoxxx, Luella Bartley and O'Neill and can't wait to see the shots, its going to be 'off the hook' more to follow!
House of Holland Easter Egg, featuring the Holland coat of arms.
If like P.S. your weekend plans will involve eating as many Easter eggs as humanly possibly than the fashion savvy amongst you will enjoy this House of Holland Easter egg a one of a kind being sold on eBay to raise money for Barnardos. The action ends in roughly three hours, with the reserve not yet being met.
Despite being in the grip of a consumer downturn, Asda - now part of the sinister Wal-Mart corporation - is to relaunch the George fashion line. Four years ago it was ranked number one in high street fashion sales, today however they have slipped into fourth. The man behind the brand relaunch is Anthony Thompson previously employed by Marks and Spencer's; he's ditched the two WAG inspired labels - with Coleen McLoughlin looking to follow suit. He plans to go back to selling good value fashion to food consumers, not the cheap and cheerful fast-fashion which was sold previously; and to take down fellow competitors Marks and Spencer, Primark and Tesco.
As a big fan of the Giallo genre P.S. was delighted to hear that the new collection by Cooperative Designs is inspired by Dario Argento - not Dana Argento as reported by Vogue online, don't these fashion people know anything? - and his 1977 Giallo classic Suspiria. Specialising in hand-knitted cardigans and lama knits, in a mixture of tribal and folk patterns with a bit of fair isle thrown in for good measure. you can buy from the latest collection at Brittique.com.Now if some designers really want to impress P.S. please design a collection based on Lamberto Bava's Demons 2.
Photography Ben Charles Edwards, Styling Gemma Winter, Make up Melissa Victoria Lee, Models Keeley, Rael, and Rosie
Emma Bell's Spring/Summer range is now available, from Glasgow to Brighton you can finally get your mitts on her collection, P.S. already has eyes on several pieces. Londoners can get hold of the collection at Lady Luck's store Superette in Shoreditch.
Think all the cool kids stay south of the Watford Gap? We'll you'd be wrong as this selection of stylish club kids from The Cooperage, Newcastle shows.
TV has long had affects on hairstyle of the nation be it 80s style Joanna Lumley (the Purdey) in the 'New Avenegers', or the mid-90s favourite Jennifer Aniston (the Rachel) in 'Friends.' Now Keeley Hawes can be attributed to the increases in sales of home perm kits, which have doubled, and blue mascara which has gone up five times, since 'Ashes to Ashes' aired its first episode almost two months ago.
From The Mirror, 7th March
The Mirror even had one of their journalists write a feature on her experiences of 80s fashion in the 00s. Dressed in brightly coloured trousers, big hair, sitting with a Filofax in a wine bar - it sounds like P.S. on a normal day.
Aside from starring in one of the best TV shows of the year (and it's only March) Hawes also takes center stage in one of the most annoying commercials!
Admittedly I did not recognise her on first glance sans perm, although she seems to have aged for that advert ... make someone older for an anti-age advert, I guess it kinda makes some kind sense. In the meantime 'keep them peeled' for girls going to the hairdressers asking for an Alex Drake.
P.S. has never claimed to know anything abut economics, but it seems one of the biggest high-street chains profits are about to make a spectacular tumble, one not seen in the fashion world since Naomi Campbell fell over in a pair of Westwood wedges. Next are predicting their sales will go down by 7%, I bet your thinking that's not much for a big chain like that; however it equates to a £13m loss! It is part of a trend highlighted by Marks and Spencers, Stuart Rose who expects all sales to take a two year downturn.
H&M is set to open a new store following on from the success of the COS store on Regents Street, except this time around it will solely stock the 'Divided' range, which is a hit with both young, hip, twentysomethings and poor students. It's the fifth 'Divided' store to open in Europe, and will be stocking women's, Mens and accessories, and will be housed in Camden ... Whether it will stand on the charred remains of The Hawley Arms is unfounded.
